Thomas Corwin Myers, known as T.C., was a pioneer builder, probate judge, and Justice of the Peace. Among other elected positions, he was the Hubbard County Register of Deeds.

T.C. was a pioneer builder and contractor in the Hubbard County area. He was responsible for many of the municipal buildings in Park Rapids, including the city hall, school, and library. In 1904-05 Thomas and his son Samuel built the State Park House at Itasca State Park. Shortly after it was completed, the State Park House was renamed Douglas Lodge, and is still in use greeting visitors to the headwaters of the Mississippi River today.

Thomas was a Civil War Veteran and member of the Grand Army of the Republic, a Civil War veteran’s group, as well as an Odd Fellow.

Thomas C. Myers II, known as Corwin, practiced real estate and probate law with his older brother Benjamin P. Myers at the original Myers and Myers law firm in Minneapolis.

Corwin attended the University of Minnesota, but his studies were cut short by football injuries. He was assigned to a government post in Spokane, Washington during World War I. While there he began his legal education at Gonzaga University. After moving back to Minnesota, he enrolled at St. Paul College of Law, before graduating as the valedictorian from Northwestern Law College in Minneapolis.

Corwin and his brother Benjamin made up the original Myers & Myers firm, and were considered experts in the real estate section of the Minnesota Bar Association. He was later the Farmers & Mechanics Savings Bank counsel.

Corwin was one of the organizers of the Ward Dads of Minnesota and was active in the Knights of Columbus. He had a love for music, singing with, then leading the Apollo Club for many years.

Corwin had two sons, Thomas III, and Benjamin P. Myers. Benjamin was a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. He was a navigator whose bomber was among those lost during the famed mission over Rjuken, Norway that destroyed the German heavy water plant, preventing their development of atomic weapons.

Thomas C. Myers III practiced law from 1951 until his untimely passing in 1966. From 1959 until his death, he was the Executive Secretary of the Minnesota Bar Association. In 1962 he was elected the Vice Chairman of the National Conference of Bar Secretaries.

Prior to his appointment with the Bar Association, he was a staff attorney at Farmers and Mechanics Savings Bank, where his father had previously been the bank’s counsel.

Thomas served in the Army in World War II, and later the Army Reserve, eventually attaining the rank of Major. During the war he was a Quartermaster stationed in England and was attached to General Eisenhower’s staff.

Always a civic leader, Thomas was the Vice Chairman of the Citizen’s League of Greater Minneapolis. He was also the Chairman of the First Aid and Rescue Committee of the Red Cross disaster group. He was named to an agency to assist with the relocation of families displaced during the development of the highway system around Minneapolis.

Tom and Corwin are proud to carry on the Myers’ family legal legacy helping their friends and neighbors with their legal needs.

Tom graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 1992 before a career in legal publishing intelligence and strategy. He returned to legal practice in 2011, ultimately combining forces with Nelson Berg to form Berg Myers Law in 2013.

Corwin joined Berg Myers Law as a law clerk while attending Mitchell Hamline School of Law in 2020. Upon graduation he joined the firm as an associate attorney. After Nelson Berg’s retirement, Corwin became a Partner. This provided the unique opportunity to resurrect the Myers & Myers law firm name that was used by our forefathers.
